Communication issues plague the patient-caregiver relationship spectrum. 

While the LGBTQ+ community may fear discrimination when disclosing their sexual and gender identities, other patients have trouble talking to doctors as well. The doctor’s office can be a stressful, fearful place for people, and we all react differently under pressure. 

Rotterdam Eye Hospital deployed their design thinking team to help providers better communicate with their patients. As it turns out, not everyone is looking for the same conversation. After identifying 4 types of patients, the design team “prescribed” responses to better engage the patient types.
